Pacquiao-Marquez III - A Fight to Remember

I admit. Pacquiao-Marquez III is the only Pacman fight that made me extremely nervous. I am certain that every Pacman fan felt the same. Why? It is because I was disenchanted to see an unusual Manny Pacquiao on the ring; lacking the typical power and aggression that I always see in him whenever he fights, or is it just because he’s finally met his match?

Both fighters are tough and they fought very well. I've nothing to say but praises to both of them because they were able to give boxing fans like me a first-rate combat that is truly worth watching. They never failed to impress me in every round. It was indeed a blow by blow fight. Marquez never left the blows that Pacman delivered unanswered. This is one of the factors that made this big event exciting to watch.

I eagerly waited for this day because I wanted to know who the better fighter is. Seeing the performance of the both of them, I started to think that whoever among them wins wouldn't really matter at all. They are both very good and deserving; but being a Filipina, of course I want Pacquiao to win; and he did, just as I thought, by a majority decision. I somehow knew that this time, he won't be able to knock the epic Mexican boxer down. After hearing the decision, the only thing that I was able to do is give out a sigh of relief. At last, the torture is over. The tension is gone.

Juan Manuel Marquez lost on the technical aspect but for me, he isn’t a loser after all. He wasn’t able to bring home the title but he brought home dignity because he will now be remembered as the only fighter who made it quite difficult for Pacquiao to protect his crown. He really gave him a hard time and a serious pain in the neck.

Honestly, I wasn’t really happy to hear that there will be another Pacquiao-Marquez showdown. In fact, the first thing that came into my mind then is, “Why can’t this Mexican boxer accept the fact that it’s over and Pacman won over him?” On the contrary, after watching this bout, I understood where JMM is coming from. I realized that he has all the right in the world to call for this challenge.

I don’t want to sound judgmental nor exaggerated; but I think JMM is the only fighter on the ring who has the right to repeatedly challenge Manny. That is because he knows he’s got the potential to beat the Pinoy Pride. Well, it wasn't a bad try after all :-) It was undeniably a very good attempt. He almost made it. In fact, he believes he is the real winner. Who can ever blame him?

I really disliked the idea of doing Pacquiao-Marquez III before; but now, I am eager to see a Part IV. Not because I want any of the 2 fighters to prove anything; but simply because they’re truly a match. I'd truly enjoy watching them making a stand on the ring for whatever they are fighting for. I don’t even care if there will be a V and a VI.

I wish Marquez will call for another challenge; only this time, I hope he’ll be a good sport ^_^

Ian Martin - What A Magician's Mother Has To Say

My son Ian was so much lovable as a kid. Madaldal. Bibbo. Makulit. He didn't grow up by my side and this always makes me feel that it will take forever to make up for that lost time.

He grew up under the care of my father and mother, who I believed, loved him more than I did. Sometimes, it hurts to think about that; but I guess, that's the truth. I wanted him to grow by my side but because my parents are old and I can't snatch away their happiness from them, I'm left with no choice but to leave him under their care.

It's truly painful to leave someone so dear behind but throughout the years, I've always kept the hope in my heart that one day, we will be together again. I would always see his face wherever I go. I would always hear his laughter.

After so many years, we're back into each others arms. Believe me, making up hasn't been so easy; but we were able to get through it all.

When he grew up, the problem that the family had to face about him was that he was not able to push through with schooling. He may have lost the interest before, but I am quite certain that he did not totally lose it because I can always see in him the desire to go back to school. What happened is that he became more focused in his new discovery. It used to be a plain hobby. Now, it became his world.

I think he was only 13 when he first showed his interest in magic. Prior to that, he would try other things like making personalized bracelets, solving the Rubik's Cube in seconds and crafting various stuff to amuse everyone around him; in addition to bugging me most of the time to buy him this and that so he can practice various tricks. I can never forget how disappointed he would be whenever I refuse; not to mention, how he cries in silence. At the back of my mind, I always knew that this child will be a great entertainer someday.

Pursuing to be a magician is not something cheap. I used to have only a little interest in magic and I totally lost it when David Copperfield went down to history...until my own son finally followed the footsteps of this great man. Since then, I understood why this craft should be respected by everyone --- whether he's a magician or not. Magicians hone themselves but it's not just about showcasing what they got; it's more about making people happy.

Every magician invests not only money but also so much time and effort to perfect an act. I can see my son doing a lot of research and preparations, regardless of how late he would sleep each night and how mad he can be whenever his siblings cause damages to his tools.

I admit, my pocket was so much affected by his chosen path, realizing that if I had just sent someone to medicine school instead of supporting this interest, I would be able to afford that as well. I would have to support him because I can see how good he is, how he values the craft and how a better person he became since he started doing magic. I started seeing the improvements in him that he wasn't able to get from school.

Maybe, he wouldn't understand how proud I was when I saw him perform on the television for the first time. Maybe he would when he, himself eventually became a father. He wouldn't understand why my tears are falling while writing this piece of literature. In my heart, I would like to see him as something else. But my role is to support him and continue to love him for what he is; regardless of what he's chosen for himself.

Since what he's doing is so much close to his heart, I know that he will have a long way to go...and I could only watch him soar. I will always be by his side, together with the whole family. Seeing how passionate he is in what he's doing, I can only be proud and thankful.

If anyone will ask me this question, "Who's the best magician in the world?" I will not say it's Houdini. It's not even my favorite David Copperfield. Of course, I will say it's my son, Ian Martin, and I am his number 1 fan.

For a mother, her child will always be the best. Ian, my first-born child, who used to be Immanuel, is among the best gifts I've received from God. That is exactly what his name means.

Keep it up son, and may the Lord always be with you. This article is written to let you know that I am very happy for you...and that I am very happy to have you in my life.

When I started feeling “sick” of pop music, I found “The Cure”.

For me, they are one of the best bands of the 80s. I was captivated by their unique gothic sound and style. How can I forget the songs A Night Like This, Caterpillar, In Between Days, Boys Don’t Cry, Just Like Heaven, Close To Me, The Walk, The Lovecats, Kyoto Song and a whole lot more?

The Cure was formed in 1976. Originating from Crawley, West Sussex, they are among the pioneers of gothic rock in the UK. They are also among the biggest names in new wave music. The band had to undergo several line-up changes before reaching stardom – the prominence meant to be remembered by their fans for so many years.

I was still a teenager when I first heard them. I can still remember how I used to have a big crush on Robert Smith, the band’s lead vocalist, guitarist and composer. I couldn’t forget how I defended them against the people who criticized them badly before my face and thought that I am idolizing a bunch of crazy dudes.

Indeed, they have a funny way of dressing up and putting on makeup. Robert Smith’s style of singing is amusing as well; but aren’t these their very trademark in the industry? The qualities that brought them to fame. Their fans loved them the way they are and will remember them for their unique representation. To other people, it’s crazy. To us, it’s craze.

No matter how weird they may seem to be, they will always be my favorite band. Imitators came out from the time machine; however, none of the bands after them were able to fully reproduce their style and music. One of the most commercially successful alternative bands that ever walked the earth; The Cure gave me the cure from the boredom brought about by customary music. And just like my other favorite bands i.e. Duran Duran and Tears for Fears, they will always stay in my memory.

No doubt. No argument. I am a certified The Cure fan.

TV5's Magic Gimik - I Am Protesting Against This Show

We have so many magicians in this country who should be respected because they worked hard to hone their skills to make other people happy. I am happy to know that there are some Filipino youngsters that are becoming more drawn to learn the craft rather than getting involved in vices and wrongdoings.

Magic is a form of entertainment and we all know that magicians use tricks; however, I don’t think it will be fair to reveal their tricks to the public. I am appealing to TV5 not to air this show because it will ruin the livelihood of Pinoy Magicians. Maawa sana tayo sa mga magicians natin. Tatanggalan ba natin sila ng kasiyahan at kabuhayan? Kakayanin ba ng konsensiya natin na kapag nag-magic sila before people e pagtatawanan na lang sila at sasabihin sa kanila na alam na namin kung paano ninyo ginagawa yan? Sumasali pa naman sila sa sikat ninyong programang Talentadong Pinoy. Ibibilad ba natin sila sa kahihiyan? I truly wish hindi matuloy ang programang ito. Let’s not make fun of magicians. We should be proud of them because they learned those tricks to entertain people. And it took them plenty of time to become good performers. I’d rather see a magic show that features various talented magicians being aired on TV5 keysa sa isang show na ide-debunk ang magic at sisirain ang mga madyikero natin na nagpapasaya lang naman ng mga tao.

Imagine, the debunker on this show is a foreigner. This means we will allow someone from another country to destroy the reputation of our magicians. Avid viewer pa naman kami ng TV5 pero we will definitely boycott this show.

What makes me more proud of you is the fact that you are a Pinoy. You showed braveness that night as well because you were not scared to "experiment". You combined your tricks with dancing. It's quite "mahirap" ah.

You remind me so much of my son. You have similar features. But don't worry, that is not the only reason why I liked you. Magaling ka kasi talaga and very entertaining. Hindi lang talent and skill ang nakikita ko saiyo whenever you perform; I feel your soul in what you're doing. Kakaiba kang Talentado.

I feel sad somehow that the event is over. Sa YouTube na lang ba kita mapapanood? I hope not. I am really wishing that I will see more of you and your impressive talent. As far as I am concerned, I am a big fan of yours; and it seems I will always be...

In spite of the fact that I have read so many negative comments about you on the net, na kesyo di ka daw deserving manalo, maangas ka, mayabang ka and etc., I still believe your star shined more that night. You stood out among the rest, in spite of that "fall". Well, the moment kasi that the Yoyo Tricker's yoyo fell is also the moment that his name soared. I will go with Alex De Rossi --- "SO WHAT!" That doesn't make him less of a Talentado. He never let that "fall" stop him from conquering. And he really did that talent-studded night.

In fairness to all the champions, deserving sila lahat! Lahat sila unique. Wala akong masabi kundi puro papuri sa bawat participant; however, I followed Yoyo Tricker eversince I saw him perform at Talentadong Pinoy the very firt time; and that was June 20, 2009, right? Instantly, I became a fan. I would always rush home on Saturday nights just to see him on TV. I would cheer and scream with the audience as if I am really there. I knew it then, he has a long way to go.

YT, I am praying that you will continue to make your kababayans truly proud of you. Throw that yoyo up high. I salute you. Today, the Philippines saw your "angas". Tomorrow, the world. This blog is my tribute to the Best Yoyo Tricker I've ever seen. His performance is a combination of skill and passion.

Gangster Love Metamorphosis won the Singapore Star Awards 2007 "Best Drama Series Award". It starred three of Singapore's most talented artists: Rui En as An Xiaoqian, Chen Hanwei as Ouyang Li and Terence Cao as Di Lun. Other stars include Chen Guo Hua as Cao Zhongming, Ng Hui as Mya Sun Meiya, Julian Hee as Meng Tianbao, Yvonne Lim as Wen Wanrou, Ix Shen as Ryan Hou Laien (Executor), Thomas Ong as Hu Xicun (Judge Ironfist) and Nick Shen as Zhang Shaoqi (Reaper). It is now being shown here in the Philippines and is being aired from Mondays through Fridays at TV 5.

Personally, this is my noon time choice in terms of TV shows. Not that I don't enjoy ABS-CBN's Wowowee or GMA 7's Eat Bulaga; it's just that there is something about this thriller-drama that caught my attention, which made me think it's worth watching. Every episode excites me and leaves me begging for more. Based on my analysis, it's well and intelligently done. It shows a bit of violence since it's action-packed; however, it is done in good taste. Moreover, in spite of the fact that it's filled with action, it also got a lot of heart-moving scenes.

The story revolves around a special team of policemen, which is led by Xiaoqian (Rui En). With their combined skills, all six of them strove to solve various cases, in spite their differences. The serial shows several twists and turns, which makes it more exciting to watch. The actors delivered great performances as well and that made me love the serial more.

I highly recommend this show to everyone. It is even safe for kids to watch. It surely has a thrilling and touching ending so you better not miss it. It's already on it's third run and might not be rewound anymore. The theme song is also very addicting. I'd always love to hear it play.

If I will be asked to rate this program, from 1 to 5 stars, I will definitely give it a "5". I find it flawless and you'll experience no dull moment with it.

Dill Mill Gayye talks about the story of 5 surgical interns who became good friends. Every moment they spent inside the Sanjeevani Hospital became truly colorful. They faced a lot of pressures, drama and humorous incidents as young and aspiring doctors; however, everything became manageable.

Riddhima plays the protagonist. She is a 21 year old intern with high hopes of becoming the best in her class. She was brought up well by her parents, her father in particular, who is a respected doctor. She has a very strong desire to make her father proud of her. She toiled to earn his praise.

What makes Riddhima outstanding is her capability to stand against the test of time. She can get out of every hardship while keeping her integrity. She’s got the type of faith that never tails off in spite of the difficulties that cross over. She considers every circumstance that she overcomes as a feat.

Most of all, Dill Mill Gayye is a love story. The story shows that love can blossom in an atmosphere which is filled with demands and pressure. Riddhima and her co-intern Armaan started from a love-hate relationship. Like Riddhima, Armaan aspires to be a very good doctor. The demands in the workplace would often bring out several heated arguments between the two of them...until they just realized that they are starting to like each other. And that lit the romantic mood inside the hospital.

The interns in the story deal with love, friendship, family and ambition. The story is truly inspiring. Those who have followed this TV serial have enjoyed the program because of the entertaining plot. The chemistry that the characters created altogether also became a winning factor. It captured the hearts of many Indians from different parts of the world.

The Last Moonwalk - My Tribute to MJ

I couldn't remember the first time I heard him sing. I also couldn't remember the first time I saw him do the "moonwalk" that went down to history. All I know is that I was so young then; but instantly, I became a fan. Since then, I resort to collecting MJ memorabilia, wishing and hoping that one day, I will be given the chance to meet him in person.

For me, he is the most famous celebrity that ever lived. Almost everybody knows him. He is the real total entertainer. The way he loved his fans really amazed me. His desire to help children and influence change in the world through his music made me love him more. The way he showed how affected he is by those controversies made me admire him more. He is a superstar. Lived the life of a king. But still, a human being who like us, gets hurt, feels frustrated, fears, cries and so on.

One regret that I will always carry in my life is that I didn't get the chance to watch him perform live. I know, I never will anymore. He went to Manila so many years ago but I wasn't able to afford the price of the concert ticket then. Now that I know I would be able to afford it if ever he would come back, he is no more. Besides, I know he has no plans of coming back here even hath he lived. At least, YouTube is there. I can always relive his memories whenever I want to. There will be no last moonwalk there because he will always be there for his fans like me.

There are speculations in different parts of the world where many believe that he isn't really dead. In my heart, I know that he is. It is just that many of his fans, family members and friends were taken by shock with his sudden departure. Therefore, in our subconscious is the presence of denial and nonacceptance. A Portrait of Matt Monro

For me, there can never be another singer like Matt Monro. I believe that he's got one of the finest voices that was ever heard on planet earth. In fact, those who are engaged in retro pop music nowadays, not to mention those who were engaged in it before, were mostly influenced by his voice and his music.

While listening to some of his songs on YouTube, I can feel like I am being placed under a very strong spell which I cannot resist. His voice is as powerful as his songs. I definitely could feel that his singing is not just coming from his heart --- it is coming from his soul as well! He has this unique style of delivering lines that makes me melt on my seat whenever I listen to him. For me, he's got the highest class in singing.

The death of Matt Monro due to liver cancer in 1985 took away a legend from retro pop music fans like me. However, he left a legacy that made him one of the most cited and most memorable singers of all time. In 1985, I was only 11 years old. Imagine? But I was already a fan. I even had a crush on my father's friend then who imitates his style of singing. He comes to our house frequently to spend a few moments of drinking karaoke spree with my dad, who also has big respect and admiration for Matt Monro.

My favorite Monro music is "A Portrait of My Love". Right now, I am studying voice under a Yamaha School of Music instructor. The reason? Well, aside of course from the fact that I love singing, I want to be able to reach his songs without changing the keys. I am very much happy that now, I can sing several with ease and confidence.

This year, I just turned 35. If the legend is still living, he will be 78 by now. Imagine our age gap. He must already be enjoying success in the music industry even before I was born ... but hearing his songs when I was still a kid really made me fall in love with retro pop and the music of Matt Monro.

Duran Duran: My Memories Of A Band

I would like to take this opportunity to write about a band whose memories still linger in my mind.

Watching the music videos of Duran Duran at YouTube.com makes me recall those times where I used to be their number one fan. That was in the 80s. Their songs used to be heard on my radio everyday.

They are among the best and most successful bands in the 80s alongside Spandau Ballet, Tears for Fears and Wham (who were also my favorites then); but among the things that make them standout from their rivals are their music videos. They are tagged as the MTV Group during those times because their music videos are well done, stylish, classy and they tell stories as well.

If you will ask me what I liked about this band, what I can say is that they are unique in every way. I love the sexy sound of their music and their exciting music videos. Who wouldn't dance then to their tune? Who wouldn't want to watch them live? Their concerts are very dynamic and you can always see the crowd going wild whenever they perform. In addition to this, the guys who make up the band are not only talented --- they are also good-looking.
